Function Type: Math and Trigonometry

Description:

SUMIFS function adds the cells specified by a given set of conditions or criteria. It is the plural version of the SUMIF function because it can accommodate more than 1 criteria.

Function Structure: 

=SUMIFS(sum_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2], …)

Argument Breakdown:

sum_range – This is the actual range of cells to sum.

criteria_range1– This is the range of cells you want evaluated for the particular condition or criteria.

criteria1 – This is the condition or criteria in the form of a number, expression, or text that defines which cells will be added. This can be a) Numeric criteria, b) Text criteria, c) Date criteria, d) AND criteria and e) OR criteria.

criteria_range2 – This is the range of cells you want evaluated for the particular condition or criteria. This is optional when you will need to set more than 1 condition.

criteria2 – This is the condition or criteria in the form of a number, expression, or text that defines which cells will be added. This can be a) Numeric criteria, b) Text criteria, c) Date criteria, d) AND criteria and e) OR criteria. This is optional when you will need to set more than 1 condition.

… – This argument means that you can add more arguments.

Example:

The formula for E19 =SUMIFS(E3:E16,B3:B16,B19)

This means that IF the value in cells B3:B16 is equal to B19 which is “February”, then Excel will add the corresponding value in cells E3:E16.
